Beyond Blockbuilder
The easy to use block-by-block SiteBuilder is like getting to use training wheels as you learn to build a website. It makes it so easy really anyone can build a website using it.
But at some point you may want to take those training wheels off.
Why? Good question.
After all, many folks have built very successful sites using nothing but SiteBuilder. Going beyond what it offers is really not required.
But in order to become a truly professional online marketer as your business grows I believe you'll need to do certain things.
Benefits Of Moving Beyond SiteBuilder
1. Learn the basics of HTML so you can troubleshoot your pages and take advantage of opportunities your monetization partners offer.
2. Create sites with "look and feels that are more flexible and "modern" than the "2-colummn" look that the SiteBuilder offers.
3. Learn CSS which is the future of site design. It makes site-wide look and feel updates to your site a breeze and allows for more streamlined HTML code creation.
4. Add more sophisticated shopping and relationship building features to your site.
5. Build multiple mailing lists to be able to reach different groups within your site visitors.
6. Add better imagery that creates additional credibility and connects emotionally with your visitors.
So think of growing your site-building skills as "learning how to fish" instead of having someone just give you the fish. Once you can do your own fishing you can feed yourself forever.
How To Move Beyond Blockbuilder
It's really as easy as deciding to take the next step.
You'll probably know when you are ready...
- You'll see something on someone else's site that you wish your site could do.
- One of your monetization partners will want you to promote them using a technique that is not easy to do with Sitebuilder. (i.e. datafeeds, javascript)
- You want to be able to change a merchant's tracking code so it works better with your site design or content.
- You decide you want to use that extra space on the right of your pages.
- You hear that "includes" will make it much easier to update your site.
- You decide you want to add a forum to your site.
The point is...
As you become a more accomplished online marketer who understands how the Internet works, you'll want to add more sophisticated features to your site. That means you may need to get "under the hood" and learn more about how HTML works. There's no way around it.
Now this doesn't mean you have to do it yourself.
Yes Site Build It! is basically a "do-it-yourself" method for building an online business. It makes it pretty easy to get your site built and getting traffic without outside help.
But that doesn't mean you'll be able to do it ALL yourself. Sometimes getting outsourced help just makes sense.
Sure we can change the oil on our cars and maybe do some basic mechanical work but when it comes time for a "brake job" or a "front end alignment" it's best to leave that work to experts and folks who have the right tools.
At the very least why not get someone teach you.
Let's face it. We're all busy. And the last thing we need is the frustration of trying to figure out something difficult on our own.
